Making a Difference …
Partnering with Grace Lutheran
Grace Lutheran in Philadelphia is our “sister church” and we are honored to partner with them and help support their various food ministries. They get what it means to “be church”, and are a wonderful example of getting outside of the four walls of their church building, being in the community, and finding out what is needed. We are so thankful that when they need extra resources to help serve their community, we can rally our congregation and provide some of those resources. Throughout the year we have canned good drives, clothing drives, or even fundraisers to provide whatever is Grace Lutheran tells us they need to help support their wonderful work. Below are just a few examples.
On some of Grace Lutheran’s busiest months, they will serve nearly 2000 meals to those in need within their Mantua community. Recently, Grace Lutheran reached out to us to tell us that their existing freezers that hold all of this food were no longer working. As the Holy Spirit connected the dots, Holy Trinity was just about to participate in the Narberth Spring Music Festival and sell hot dogs in our own fundraiser. Within a week, a combination of that fundraiser along with some congregation contributions, we were able to raise the money to purchase and deliver 2 brand new freezers to Grace Lutheran so that there would be minimal interruption in their feeding the hungry.
2014 Holiday Meals Delivered
For both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons, Holy Trinity collected canned cranberries, frozen turkeys and all the fixings in order to bless our brothers and sisters at Grace Lutheran Church in the Mantua section of Philadelphia and their food outreach programs. Over the holidays we delivered an entire van-load of food, donations and clothing which were warmly received and helped ease the burden during the holidays. But it is a well-known fact that donations typically drop off after the holidays, however the need is always there. So, you can continue to bring food or clothing donations to Holy Trinity to ensure that hungry folks in our city have something to eat, and something warm to wear, during the upcoming winter months.
Throughout the year, but especially during the holidays (as mentioned above) our congregation pools together many of their Giant or Acme supermarket rewards to purchase dozens of turkeys and fixings so that the families that Grace Lutheran serves can provide a warm Thanksgiving or Christmas meal to their children and families. At Christmas, our Sunday School children design a “giving tree” with suggested gifts pinned to the tree. Our congregation purchases these gifts and we delivery them to Grace Lutheran for distribution to the children they support.
We fell blessed that we are in a position to be able to partner with Grace Lutheran and the amazing work they are doing. Also check out our Mission of the Month page for additional outreach activities Holy Trinity Narberth is involved in.
