Making a Difference …
In the spring of 2014, Holy Trinity decided we could do more to support our community, and we partnered with a wonderful company called Triskeles to build three raised-bed gardens. While Triskeles provided us the know-how and gardening expertise, we also reached out to the Narberth Community to invite any gardening enthusiasts to pitch if if they were interested. Part of the agreement with Triskeles is that we donate a majority of our produce to some sort of outreach program. With that, we are so thrilled to send our fresh produce to our sister congregation – Grace Lutheran Church in Mantua. Over the past three years, our Garden has provided over 2,000 pounds of food to help feed hungry people in our local community and city.
In preparation for the 2015 growing season, we installed two new raised beds, with a higher height for easier harvesting. We also installed a pea trellis to support our spring peas, set up hoses for watering and prepared the beds with nutrients for the spring vegetables planting. We’re now into our third growing season, and love being known as “that church with the vegetable garden.”
We’re thankful for all of the help we’ve received from our congregation volunteers, Triskeles, and community members who have given their time and energy to help our Giving Garden grow. If you have any questions on how we got started, or would like to give a hand (we always need people to help!), just drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
